Started in 1996, Eye Industries began life as Eye Media, when creative director Rob Sutcliffe returned from Los Angeles. ‘At that time the business was based around a small management roster and creative consultancy’ says Rob. ‘I have just always followed my gut instinct and tried to work with people and projects that I believe in and respect’. ? Over the next twelve years the business has expanded and diversified. The management company has delivered international number one hits (
Room 5 -Make Luv), whilst our producers and writers have remixed, produced and written for Kylie,Goldfrapp ,Kelis ,Mary J Blige ,George Michael ,Brandy andJ-Lo to name but a few.‘Eye represents everything from dance legends to reflective singer-songwriters,’ says Rob. ‘We get to work with such a variety of genres – boy bands, classical composers, hard rock musicians, pop icons, all the way through to experimental ambient music.
After releasing a number of limited 12" promos in 2004, Eye Industries became a fully-fledged record label with the release of
Michael Gray 's ‘The Weekend’. The track was an international success, reaching No.7 in the UK chart and has to date received over 45,000 plays on UK radio. A number of handpicked, nurtured, cool crossover singles followed and classic underground tracks (including Pac Jam's ‘Urban Minds’) further established the label as a breeding ground for cool music. Michael Gray followed up with another hit in the shape of ‘Borderline’, featuringShelley Poole .The end of 2006 saw the release of
Bodyrox feat.Luciana ] ‘Yeah Yeah’. Having built throughout the summer the track reached No.2 in the UK charts and the year ended with two Eye singles on the Christmas NOW album.2007, and the release of
Super Mal feat. Luciana ‘Bigger Than Big’ continues to cement the labels position in the market. In addition we started our foray into rock/alternative music with single releases fromMy Federation andLisa Lindley-Jones .2008 sees the release of My Federation’s debut album ‘Don’t Wanna Die’. Strong reviews and a support slot on tour with Manchester band
James further increased their profile and Eye’s expansion in the music marketplace.Forthcoming releases this year include a new single from
Alan Braxe , the genre twisting 'Nightwatcher', Timmy Vegas/Bad Lay-Dee’s hip-house monster 'Another Dimension', sublime french house cut 'What You Need' from Parisian duo Priors and new material from Michael Gray andFred Falke . We also unleash the madness that is 'Senghore' an album of dark pop from Sweden, and a mix album from Alan Braxe, set for release October 2008.Desire Music Publishing, a division of Eye Industries, was launched in 2003 as a joint venture with Stage 3 Music with a view to signing and developing new writers.
In a music supervisory role, Eye has worked on films as diverse as ‘
A Bug’s Life ’ to horror thriller ‘Octane’, which electronic groupOrbital scored. The first music supervision assignments were withDisney , the first project being ‘Hercules ’ in 1997 (Boyzone ’s single from the film was a huge hit, selling over 600,000 copies in the UK alone). ‘The Little Mermaid ’, ‘Mulan ’, ‘Inspector Gadget ’ and ‘Tarzan ’ followed. Work for Pixar/Disney included the origination of a cover recording of ‘Ant Music’ performed byRobbie Williams to promote the film ‘A Bug’s Life’. ??In 2001, Rob supervised the music for all 52 episodes of Fox/Marathon’s hit animation series ‘Totally Spies ’ as well as for UK Fragile/BVI drama production, ‘Hope Springs’, featuringHeather Graham andColin Firth .See also
