September 18 1805 -November 7 1870 ; buried inGraceland Cemetery ) served as Mayor ofChicago ,Illinois three terms (1841-1842, 1862-1865) for the Democratic Party.Sherman arrived in Chicago in April of 1834 from
Newton, Connecticut . He was a brick manufacturer and made the bricks forArchibald Clybourne 's mansion. In July 1835, he was elected a village trustee. In 1837, he opened the City Hotel, later the Sherman House. He continued to work as a contractor and builder, eventually serving as mayor of Chicago three times.External links
