Shanghai Indoor Stadium (Shanghai Metro)
- Shanghai Indoor Stadium (Shanghai Metro)
: "This article is about the Line 1 station formerly known as Shanghai Stadium. For the new Line 4 station now bearing that name, see Shanghai Stadium (Shanghai Metro)"
Shanghai Indoor Stadium ((上海体育馆)) is the name of an interchange station on Shanghai Metro Line 1 and Line 4.
Name
The Chinese name of this station 上海体育馆 (literally "Shanghai Sports Hall") refers to the nearby Shanghai Indoor Stadium. However, the station used to bear the English name "Shanghai Stadium", possibly referring to the adjacent outdoor stadium called Shanghai Stadium instead of the indoor stadium. After the opening of the nearby Line 4 station 上海体育场 , which specifically refers to the outdoor stadium, that (above-ground) station took the English name "Shanghai Stadium", while this station was renamed "Shanghai Indoor Stadium", now better reflecting the Chinese name. Still, confusion remains due to the similarity of the names in both English and Chinese, only differing by one word/character, and referring to facilities located in close vicinity.
Nearby locations
* Shanghai Indoor Stadium
* Shanghai Stadium
* Sightseeing bus station, with shuttle buses to Sheshan Forest Park and other destinations
This station is close to Caoxi Road station of Shanghai Metro Line 3, however, a new ticket has to be bought, the walking time is longer than for the interchange at People's Square station and some of the most frequented roads and bus stations of Shanghai need to be passed, so transferring here is not recommended.
If you want have a short interchange between Shanghai Metro Line 1 and Shanghai Metro Line 3 and you think Shanghai South Railway Station is far, you can take Shanghai Metro Line 1 to this station, and if you are lucky enough that your destinaiton is between Hongqiao Lu and Baoshan Lu, then interchange Shanghai Metro Line 4, otherwise, take Shanghai Metro Line 4 to Hongqiao Lu, interchange Shanghai Metro Line 3.
