Matthew Park (attorney)

Matthew Park (attorney)

Matthew Park, born in 1970, is a second generation Korean-American administrative attorney residing in Washington, D.C..

In 2006, Park gained national attention in Korea when he exposed the errors of the Korean government and the Seoul
National University in not protecting Prof. Hwang Woo Suk’s patent rights. Park further claimed that
Professor Gerald Shatten of the Pittsburg University stole Hwang’s patent rights in stem cell research.
Shatten and Hwang had been co-researchers. However, Shatten included Hwang’s nuclear transfer method into his
own patent application without informing Hwang.

Park’s claim received even more spotlight when Moon Hyung Ryel PD (program director) of the KBS, Korea Broadcasting
Service interviewed Park and tried unsuccessfully to air the program. Moon claimed that due to government censorship,
he was not able to air his program and this received wide media coverage and fueled the imagination of the Korean public.

"On August 19, 2006 Mr. Park was involved in a fatal automobile accident."

A Maryland man remains in critical condition in a Wichita hospital, after a fatal crash Saturday on I-70, seven miles west of Wakeeney.
Troopers say 37-year-old Kim Hwan of Colorado Springs, Colorado, was eastbound on I-70 when the pickup she was driving headed
toward the median, over corrected and went into a south ditch rolling onto its top. Hwan was dead at the scene, while a passenger,
36-year-old Matthew Park of Ellicott City, MD was taken to Trego County Memorial, and later flown to Wesley Medical Center.

The above article is mistaken about Mr. Kim's gender.

Mr. Hwan Chul Kim is not a female. so the fact that there was a typo explains everything.(http://www.kansas.com/mld/kansas/news/breaking_news/15325513.htm)

The Whichita Eagle's article is more accurate in describing the accident. Following is the Whichita Eagle's article.

I-70 wreck kills one, badly hurts passenger

A 36-year-old Maryland man is in critical condition at a Wichita hospital after he was badly hurt in a one-vehicle
accident on I-70 this weekend.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that Hwan Kim, 37, of Colorado Springs, Colo., was driving east on the interstate
at about 8:30 a.m. Saturday when the utility vehicle drove into the median.
Kim over-corrected in trying to steer the vehicle back onto the road, and it went into the south ditch and rolled onto its top.
Kim died in the accident.
Matthew Park of Ellicott City, Md., was transported to Trego County Memorial Hospital and later transferred
to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

Many in Korea correctly pointed out that the deceased, Mr. Hwan Kim was one of the co-founder
of moamedia.com which had initially disclosed Shatten's theft of Hwang's patent with the help
of Mr. Matthew Park.

Mr. Kim had even hid from his family members where he was going, but he did not hide the fact from one of his friends(girlfriend). saying that he was going somewhere. If he was afraid for his life then why didnt he notify police? Mr. Kim was fleeing from someone in Colorado and that Matthew Park was helping Mr. Kim escape. As a lawyer, it was Mr. Park's responsibility to notify authorities.

Kim and Park left Colorado at 3 a.m. No one knows what or who they were running from but certainly
they were running away from someone/something. They were not running away from anything, but were willing to run away from nothing but guilt as to why the accident happened.
