- Seamus McAleer
Seamus McAleer is a
fictional character on the soap operaFair City .McAleer is the President of a multi-national construction company. He is Lauren's father and doesn't tolerate anyone who treats her badly (her fiance William for example). He mentioned that Lauren was a somewhat spoilt kid during her childhood, but this was because Lauren's mother had died at that time and she would always swing her beautiful hair. He believes that Lauren can sometimes be naive. When Lauren dated Mondo, McAleer gave him a job on condition that he stop dating his daughter. Mondo reluctantly agreed and told Lauren the relationship was over, breaking Lauren's heart in the process. When Mondo unwittingly witnessed a murder, he was forced to flee the country, as a hit man had been ordered to kill him. McAleer, realising that Lauren was worried about Mondo, helped him escape to the airport just in time. McAleer began a relationship with Orla Kirwan, while Lauren found a new love, William Russell.
William was Lauren's boyfriend, but that didn't stop him from having sexual relationships with
Orla Kirwan and June Pearson. June soon discovered that William was a cheat and dumped him. William continued his relationship with Orla, who knew that Lauren was engaged to William. When Lauren became pregnant, William convinced her to have an abortion. Lying that they were going on a holiday, they went to England for the procedure. At this time, Orla was becoming more like a spoilt child, when she maxed out McAleer's credit card to buy clothes. McAleer's maid, Angela, found out about the affair and told McAleer.McAleer wasn't convinced but sent his gofor, Brian Byrne, to meet William and claim he had photos of his affair with Orla. Panicked, William agreed to pay off Brian and this confirmed McAleer's suspicions. Furious that William and Orla were at it behind Lauren's back, McAleer ordered his henchmen to teach William a lesson he would never forget. As William waited in an underground carpark with the bribe for Brian, McAleer arrived with his henchmen and gave William a terrible beating. In an ironic twist McAleer picked William's money off the ground and used it to pay off the henchmen for beating him! William barely made it out of there alive and decided to flee Carrigstown for a solicitor's job in Naas. Orla tried to romance McAleer so that she could stay in a relationship with him, but McAleer threw her out and Orla decided to move in with her cousin Niamh.
McAleer went on to buy the Northside Post, a local free newspaper. He hired
Barry O'Hanlon as editor and became a rival of sort to him. McAleer was furious at Barry when he failed to pick up on a story aboutCarol Meehan being brought in front of theCriminal Assets Bureau . Barry tried to reason with him stating that he had a better story, one about local novelistHeather Daly in an incestous relationship with her late half brother Floyd Phelan. McAleer scrapped the story as it was based on speculation and told Barry to up his game.McAleer then tried to seduce Barry's fiancee, Annette Daly. Annette who was already going through a rough patch with Barry had secretly turned to drink. McAleer knew this and also that she was a recovering alcaholic. He sent Barry on a work assignment in Scotland and slept with a drunken Annette. The next day, McAleer brought Annette out for dinner where she told him that she was getting herself together and didnt want to repeat what happened between them. McAleer offered to have a casual no strings relationship with Annette. When she refused, he blackmailed her by saying he could tell Barry about her infidelity at any time.
