Raymond "Ray" O'Connell is a fictional character on the Irish soap opera Fair City. The character is portrayed by Mick Nolan.

About Ray

Ray arrived in Carrigstown in 2000 and soon got a job at Molloys Garage. He had a troubled marriage to his wife Angela who soon left him. He also plays for the local football team, Dynamo Carrigstown. He is also a part time taxi driver.

Ray's son Mondo was sent to stay with him in 2002. Angela sent Mondo to Ray after she was fed up with his rebellious behaviour. Ray tried to encourage Mondo to do better at school but Mondo was teased by the other students. Mondo then lied to Ray and said that his teacher, Barry O'Hanlon had assaulted him. Ray was furious at Barry and pursued legal action. However Mondo finally confessed the truth leaving Ray furious and annoyed at Mondo. However he finally made up with him.

Ray was concerned when Mondo's girlfriend, Kira Cassidy revealed she was pregnant. Mondo left and moved into an apartment with Kira. Mondo had to leave school and got a job as Seamus McAleer's assistant. Kira gave birth to a daughter she named Juliet and moved to England leaving Mondo devastated.

In 2006, Angela returned to Carrigstown. Ray thought he should try to resume his marriage with her but she declined his offer. Ray also became friends with Keith McGrath.

In 2007, Ray was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He was devastated at first but started to think he should enjoy his last few months. He took out a huge loan from the bank and planned a big a big party. After, he found out that the hospital mispalaced his test results with James Piggot. He never had cancer. James later died because of the hospital's negligence.

Later, Ray had a short lived romance with Kira's mother, Gina Cassidy.

In 2008, Ray was demoted to part time work at the garage by the new manager director, Robin Doyle. However he was later fired by Ali Foley after Ray went drinking after Floyd Phelans funeral.

In August, Angela returned and announced she wanted to sell the flat. Ray managed to persuade her to keep it so instead she rented it out to him and Detective Deegan. Ray also started going out with Gina again and later proposed to her.
