Self-guided tour

Self-guided tour

A "self-guided tour" is where one navigates a route himself as opposed to an escorted tour where a tour guide person directs the route, times, information, and places toured. Many self-guided tours come with suggestions, maps, instructions, directions, and items to see or do. This is contrary to escorted tours where most of the tour information, places to see, and things to do are prearranged by the tour guide or his company. In some instances people prefer an escorted tour for convenience and efficiency in seeing and doing the most in the time available. In some instances people prefer to tour themselves because:

* They want to learn and discover themselves;
* They wish to see and tour only certain items;
* Tour guides and escorted tours not available.

As with escorted tours, self-guided tours may be conducted on foot or by vehicle. Audio tours are frequently presented in a self-guided format, as are virtual tours.
