Black Island (Ross Archipelago)

:otherplaces3|Black Island

Black Island (coord|78|7|S|166|8|E|) is an island in the Ross Archipelago immediately west of White Island. Discovered by the Discovery Expedition (1901–04) and so named for its lack of snow. On the northern tip of the island is the principal telecommunications downlink facility for the US Antarctic Programs McMurdo Station.

Peter A. Marchetti (Tony) has spent 22 seasons with the Antarctic Program and the last thirteen austral summers as the Antarctic Program Black Island Satellite Earth Station Camp Manager.
