Tsimiski Street

Tsimiski Street ( _el. Οδός Τσιμισκή) is the one of the best known Avenues and the most popular one for shopping, in Thessaloniki, Greece.It starts from the area of Thessaloniki's International Fair, between Aggelaki Street and Nikolaou Germanou and ends in the crossroad with Ion Dragoumis Street in the west side of the city's centre. Tsimiski Street was named after the Byzantine Emperor, Ioannis Tsimiskis and today consists the bussiest and thriving part of Thessaloniki's center. The most busy point of Tsimiski Street is its crossroad with Aristotelous Square which, until today, is a major meeting-point for most Thessalonicans.

Shops and Landmarks

In Tsimiski there are hundreds of various fashion shops, with most famous to be the multi-shop Fokas. There is also a big number of caféterias and bars while most of the flats are owned or rented by local companies and organizations. The United States Consulate of Thessaloniki has its offices on Tsimiski and more specifically within the Tsimiski Plateia Centre, a small mall which contains facilities from bars and restaurants, to fitness centers and multi-cinema theatres. Furthermore, the Ancient Greek-style building of the National Bank of Greece, in the crossroad of Tsimiski with Ion Dragoumis, is regarded as one of the most imposing buildings in Thessaloniki.
