Baijnath is a small Indian town on the banks of the Gomti River in the Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand.

History

Baijnath has remained the capital of Katyuri Kings, who ruled the area from 7th-11th century AD., then it was known as "Kartikeyapura" and lies in the centre of 'Katyur' valley; in 1901 it is was a small village with a population of 148 [ [http://dsal.uchicago.edu/reference/gazetteer/pager.html?objectid=DS405.1.I34_V06_223.gifKartikeyapura] The Imperial Gazetteer of India 1909, v. 6, p. 217.] .
