Strathclyde Law School was established in 1964 and operates within the faculty of Law, Arts and Social Sciences at the
University of Strathclyde , inGlasgow ,Scotland .
The Law School has recently moved to new accommodation in the Lord Hope Building (named afterDavid Hope, Baron Hope of Craighead ). The new premises were officially opened by theLord Advocate Elish Angiolini QC in February 2007.Postgraduate courses, including the Diploma in Legal Practice, are available from the Glasgow Graduate School of Law (GGSL). The GGSL is a joint collaboration of the
University of Strathclyde andGlasgow University . The GGSL is based on the University of Strathclyde John Anderson campus in the Lord Hope Building.Professor Kenneth Norrie was awarded Scottish Law Lecturer of the Year 2007 at the Law Awards of Scotland. Teaching Awards
Professor Norrie won Law Lecturer of the year 2007 by the Firm Magazine and the Law School obtained more nominations than any other law school. Professor Norrie, Professor Robson and Professor Rodger were nominated for the award in 2007.
In 2008, the Law School jointly held the most nominations with Professor Blackie and Professor Nicolson being nominated.
The Law Clinic
The University of Strathclyde Law Clinic was set up in October 2003 and is the first, and remains the only, University-run Law Clinic in Scotland. The Law Clinic offers free legal advice and help to patrons of
Glasgow and the surrounding area who cannot afford asolicitor or do not qualify forlegal aid . Dealing with mainlyEmployment and Small Claims issues, the Clinic has branched out in recent years intoPlanning , Environmental, andLandlord and Tenant areas of law, helping a vast amount of clientele along the way.The current Law Clinic offices are located on Level 3 of the
Lord Hope Building, on theUniversity of Strathclyde John Anderson campus.The current Law Clinic Director is the founder, Professor Donald Nicolson.
Mooting
Strathclyde Law School has a very active
mooting society. The society organises an internal competition and competes in various Scottish and UK external competitions, including the Alexander Stone Moot and the English Speaking Union Competition.Strathclyde also participate in an annual competition against
Glasgow University Law School: the Sheriff Moot, organised byGlasgow Sheriff Court .The Mooting Society's current President is Emma L Boffey and Vice-President is Josh Barton.
