Independent Local Radio station broadcasting from a former carpet shop in Southcote Road inBournemouth . Its name is derived from the fact that its broadcast area includes parts of the counties ofDorset andHampshire . It is part ofThe One Network .Former BBC Radio Solent presenter John Piper launched the station in 1980, with the words "Good Morning Hampshire, Good Morning Dorset". At that time it was a "full service" station with music, personalities, phone-ins, and a local news service.
The most notable member of staff is Rosemary Mundy. From the launch date to today, Rosemary has been an integral part of the station. Rosemary is the office manager of the radio station. Other notable presenters include Christian O'Connell (who now presents the breakfast show on Absolute Radio) and the UK's first Professor of Radio, Sean Street, who still teaches in the 2CR FM area at
Bournemouth University ,Fran Godfrey (Radio 2 Newsreader), Tim Butcher, Geoff Allen (now with BBC Radio Solent in Bournemouth and Southampton), John Terrett (now at Al-Jazeera TV), the late Richard Gwynn, Glenn Richards, Graham Mack (TFM Radio), Simon Ward, Alan Rowett (BBC Producer, now Delta Radio) andMartyn Lee (now at regional station The Coast) ITV News' Crime Correspondent Adrian Britton started as a receptionist at the station before moving into the newsroom. BBCMatch of the Day commentatorDan O'Hagan got his big break on the station, reporting from Wembley Stadium onAFC Bournemouth 's appearance in the1998 Auto Windscreens Shield final.The station headed into the millennium, gaining its biggest ever
RAJAR figures with Richie, Martyn & Emma on the Morning Crew, followed by Katherine Orman presenting 10am-2pm andAdrian Clarkson on Drive 2-7pm. The line-up stayed like that until 2002 whenAdrian Clarkson was replaced by GWR network presenter - Rob Smith. Shortly afterwards Katherine Orman left to be replaced by James "Lloydie" Lloyd.2CR FM has been named as one of the stations owned by
