Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Hugh Trefusis Brassey KCVO, OBE, MC, JP (
5 October 1915 – 1990) was a British soldier.The son of
Lieutenant-Colonel Edgar Hugh Brassey and Margaret Harriet Trefusis, he was educated atEton College inBerkshire and at theRoyal Military College, Sandhurst . During theSecond World War , Brassey served in theRoyal Scots Greys , reaching the rank ofMajor . In 1944, he received theMilitary Cross and theCroix de Guerre . After the war, he served in theRoyal Wiltshire Yeomanry , reaching the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.Brassey was
Justice of Peace forWiltshire in 1951 andDeputy Lieutenant for Wiltshire from 1955 to 1968. In 1959, he wasHigh Sheriff of Wiltshire and was made an Officer of theOrder of the British Empire . He was furtherAide-de-Camp toQueen Elizabeth II from 1964 to 1969 and Vice Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire from 1968 to 1981. Having been Exon of theYeomen of the Guard from 1964 to 1970, he became its Ensign in 1970, Adjutant and Clerk Cheque in 1971, and finallyLieutenant in 1979. Brassey wasLord Lieutenant of Wiltshire from 1981 to 1989 and was invested as a Knight Commander of theRoyal Victorian Order in 1985.On
18 July 1939 , he married Joyce Patricia Kingscote, daughter of Captain Maurice John Kingscote. They had three daughters and two sons.References
