Khachatur of Taron or Khatchatur Taronetsi his birth and death are uncertain, it is known that he was born in Taron, in
Western Armenia , and eventually settled in eastern armenia at a time inZakarid Armenia [The first few decades of the thirteenth century in northeasternArmenia are known as the Zakarid period after the most influential family in the region, the Zakarians.] . The region was enjoying relative prosperity and development. Sometime during the 1230's he was put in charge of the monastery of Haghartzin, in the province ofDzorapor . Taronestsi was a poet and musician and he occupies a special place among the writers of Sharakans. From Western Armenia he brought with him toDzorapor many spiritual chants transcribed inKhaz .
