A license for this station was first issued in 1949 as a KELL (call sign would've stood for Ellis County), but in 1951, it went dark. A year later, call sign KWHA was established, but just like KELL, it too was defunct for 2 years before the station got its third revival as KBEC. (That is when the Tucks purchased the frequency). The
jazz standard format was in place from 1955 to 1978, then they've switched to a short-lived Spanish format; and again tobig band music with standards added back in. In 1988, KBEC made its permanent change to classic country and has since then maintained the format to this day.External links
