Ambrose 'Amby' Power (1887 - 1960) was a famous Irish sportsperson who played
hurling for Clare in the 1910s.Amby Power was born in Brooklodge, Quin,
County Clare in 1887. He had three siblings and grew up on the family farm. He had a love ofhurling from a young age. Power's skill at hurling was quickly noticed and he soon joined the Clare senior hurling team. In 1914 he was appointed captain in what proved to be a very successful year. The team was trained byJim O'Hehir , father of the sports broadcasterMicheál O'Hehir . Power played a key role at centre-back along with his brother,Joe Power , at corner-back. The team beat Cork and Limerick to win the Munster Championship, before defeating Laois to claim the All-Ireland title [cite web |url=http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/claremuseum/news_events/tip_and_slashin.htm |title= 'Tip and Slashin’ - Clare’s Hurling Victories of 1914|accessdate=2008-04-08] . It was the first time that Clare won the All-Ireland Championship. In retirement from hurling Power worked as a farmer and also owned a pub. He became aFine Gael politician in later life.Amby Power died on
