Vernon Darryl Philander (born 24 June 1985 in Bellville) is a South African cricketer. A right handed allrounder, he has previously represented his country at under 19 level. He plays for Western Province in South African domestic cricket.

On 21 January 2007 he was a victim of an armed robbery along with several other Cobras teammates. The robbers pushed a gun against his face as they raided a fast food outled that he was dining in. [http://content-aus.cricinfo.com/ci/content/story/277208.html?CMP=ILC-DIR]

Philander made his ODI debut on his 22nd birthday, against Ireland at Belfast. He took 4 for 12 to help his side to a comfortable victory.

Philander who was chosen for the emerging players tournament in Australia, had an awesome tornament with both bat and ball, taking 3 for 30 and 59 off 50 balls in the final against New Zealand A. This resulted in the young South Africans winning the overall tournament.

On Tuesday 1st April, it was announced that Philander would be one of Middlesex CCC's overseas players for the 2008 English Domestic season. He will stay at Lord's until the arrival of Murali Kartik in June. Philander replaced the Australian Ashley Noffke who is unable to fulfill his commitment to play for the County this year having been selected for the Australian's Summer 2008 tour of the West Indies.

On May 28th he was disciplined by the England and Wales Cricket Board after he was reported by umpires Peter Willey and George Sharp for unacceptable on-field behaviour.
