"My Friend With Money" is the 122nd episode of the American situation comedy "Scrubs". It aired as Episode 5 of Season 6 on 11 January 2007.

Plot

J.D. takes advantage of Elliot who, now that she is in private practice, makes much more money than he. Dr. Cox is angry at her for giving up on her former colleagues who still work for Sacred Heart, calling her a "sellout". When Elliot asks whether J.D. agrees with this assessment, he says that he does, and she accuses him of being jealous. Meanwhile, the hospital starts catering to richer patients, opening a luxury hospital suite. When an inhabitant of one of the suites is transferred to a hospice, Dr. Cox and the Janitor claim the room for themselves so that they can hide from their personal and professional lives. Conflict of character between the two results in competition for the room, ending ultimately in Dr. Kelso reclaiming it.

Turk, in the mean-time, cannot persuade Carla to see a doctor about her post-partum depression. He turns to Dr. Cox for help, who in turn invokes his ex-wife Jordan, who convinces Carla that there is no shame in admitting that she needs help. After Elliot provides J.D. and his girlfriend Kim with webcams so that they may keep in touch with one another, he admits that he is, indeed, jealous of her success, and accuses Dr. Cox of the same jealousy.

Continuity errors

*During the episode Dr. Cox's hair color changes twice from curly blonde to short brown the first when Jordan is entering the hospital and the second in the penultimate scene.
*In the beginning when Dr. Cox is talking about texting and has a phone resembling a BlackBerry but later (twice) he has a flip phone.

Cultural references

*In one scene, JD imagines that the floors in Elliot's apartment are trampolines. He then bounces a can of Budweiser on the floor - similar to the Budweiser ad, however the writer claimed in the podcast commentary that he wrote the joke before he knew of the ads' existence.
*The episode title is a reference to the Jennifer Aniston movie "Friends with Money".
*When counseling Carla about post-partum depression, Jordan refers to a "big Hollywood movie star and the dead science fiction writer he worships." [http://www.tv.com/scrubs/my-friend-with-money/episode/878548/summary.html] This is a reference to Tom Cruise's criticism of actress Brooke Shields' use of Paxil to deal with her post-partum depression in early 2005 [http://www.hollywood.com/news/detail/id/2440860] [http://www.nytimes.com/2005/07/01/opinion/01shields.html?ex=1277870400&en=7189d307fdb5772d&ei=5090&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss] ; Tom Cruise is a Scientologist, a religion founded by L. Ron Hubbard, a "dead science fiction writer."
*Twice during this episode Jordan is compared to the T. Rex from Jurassic Park. During the goat-eating scene and when she enters the hospital Turk and Dr. Cox watch ripples in a glass of water.
*Dr. Kelso cutting through the walled-over suite door is a reference to the lifepod door-cutting scene at the beginning of "Aliens"
