lake inBrevard County and a small portion lies in Osceola County. The lake was named after U. S. Army Captain Edward Winder. Early in 1838 Winder was assigned to scout the area for Seminoles. He discovered Lake Poinsett, named to honor the Secretary of War. The smaller lake to the south was named after Winder. [Blakey, Arch F. General John H. It is part of theSt. Johns River system and governed by theSt. Johns River Water Management District . The lake is accessible by boat fromLake Poinsett , convert|5|mi|km|0 downstream.
