It is the evening of September 10. Jimmy is trying to get some sleep due to his ill son Joey keeping him up all night whilst the rest of the squad watch the football game. Various calls to the same address keep the firefighters busy all night.
Bosco also wants to see the football game, but due to him working he has taped it and tries to avoid the result. He almost manages it, until just as he is leaving the station a drunk blurts out the score. Annoyed, Bosco goes to a bar instead.
Sully and Davis are in Atlantic City. Sully and Tatiana are getting married the next day and Davis is determined that Sully enjoy his last night of freedom. They go to a strip club and drink all night, but it is Davis who feels the worst for wear afterwards, to the amusement of Sully.
Faith is worried about her doctor's appointment the next morning, which will confirm if she has cancer or not. Fred just wants them to forget about it for tonight, but Faith doesn't stop worrying. She wonders why, if it is good news, why she's not told over the phone. Fred says the doctor wants to tell her the good news in person.
Doc and Carlos have a slow shift, and just as they are about to clock off they get a call. Doc is moving into a new apartment and has decided to revamp and decorate it himself. Carlos warns him that the building may have cast iron piping, which it indeed does.
Kim is still feeling depressed over Bobby's death, and isn't answering the phone. When morning arrives, her mother Catherine comes over - it was her calling last night, as Joey was still sick and wanted to talk to her. Kim and Catherine argue.
Faith and Fred are delayed by their doctor, who has been in surgery. The doctor confirms she does not have cancer but there is still a risk of it developing. They head home on the subway, and at 8.46am there is a power surge causing the subway train to stop.
Bosco wakes up in a strange apartment. It belongs to a girl he met at the bar last night. Realising he needs to make a move and get home before work, he hears an airplane flying overhead. Bosco goes to the window and sees the first impact into the Tower.
In Atlantic City, Sully and Davis are going to the wedding when they see a TV news report about the events in New York. Catherine calls Kim and tells her to turn on the TV, and she also sees the report. At the firehouse, the morning shift arrive, and Jimmy and Billy Walsh are going to the gym. When the call comes in for the fire at the
World Trade Center , all the shifts drop what they are doing and head to the disaster scene. Kim runs from home to help, and Faith tells Fred to get Emily and Charlie out of school and go home as she heads to the WTC.Notes
