Agent Mulder is haunted by an old case, in which young girls were killed and hearts cut from their nightgowns. Soon, Mulder becomes suspicious when the killer taunts him with the idea that one of his victims may have been Samantha. The episode stars
Tom Noonan as serial killer John Lee Roche.ummary
The episode begins with Mulder having a dream in which he eventually goes to the forest and sees a young girl being buried in the ground. When he wakes up, he goes to the location he identifies as the forest from his dreams with a forensics team and finds the decaying body of a young girl with a piece of fabric missing from her clothing just as he suspected.
He identifies the victim as that of Roche, whom he had previously investigated. Scully suggests that Mulder had worked out in his dreams where the unknown victim was buried, quoting Mulder from "Aubrey", "Dreams are answers to questions we haven't yet figured out how to ask."
Trivia
Noonan had previously starred as a serial killer in "Manhunter." Perhaps coincidentally, the killer in that film is known as the "tooth fairy," and the father of the first previously unknown victim says that the killer took a pouch from his daughter that was for the tooth fairy to give her money in.
Duchovny has stated this is his favorite Mulder centric episode.
