Furthermore, it has been said that the band could “give lessons on what a pop song is” . Spreading their sounds via the internet on sites including MySpace and Facebook, their musical influences listed are The Cardigans, Ivy, and Metric. Their pop sound has been featured in over 20 films and in such television series including Queer as Folk, Falcon Beach, and Party of Five. According to Paper Moon’s MySpace page, band members Chris and Alison are getting married in September and their ‘wedding social’ will take place during one of their shows in their hometown of Winnipeg.
Cultural/Media Impact
Although Paper Moon has not garnered the attention other indie bands like Metric have, the internet has become a vehicle for artists distribute their music to audiences of the users of websites like MySpace. The small-knit, yet global community of internet users, specifically for music, has given artists the ability to create the fan base within the anonymous audience of the internet, which then may turn into being discovered by the mainstream media. Artists who are in the mainstream now by being discovered via distributing their music using the internet include Amy Winehouse and City and Color. Paper Moon can be placed under the musical category of fem-pop or fem-rock. Females musicians, whether solo or an all-female band have gained considerable ground in the music industry, especially in the genre of rock. “The industry still view bands fronted by women are novelties. It seems like to me that right now women are entitled to their just one shining moment” . Paper Moon even more so triumphs because it is a band with both male and female members, and the females are the leads, not the men. The band gained some recognition after their song "These New Friends of Yours" from their album "Broken Hearts Break Faster Everyday" was featured in an episode of the seventh season of the teen drama .
