Searching in the National Register Information System at [http://www.nr.nps.gov/nrloc1.htm http://www.nr.nps.gov/nrloc1.htm] upon "IL" and "Chicago" yields a total of 306 for the city, because it includes eleven items that are merely boundary increases to existing historic districts (1 for Columbus Park, 2 for Hyde Park-Kenwood HD, 2 for Lakeview HD, 3 for Sheffield HD, 1 for Tri-Taylor HD, 1 for Villa HD, 1 for West Jackson HD) and it does not yet reflect the recently listedInternational Tailoring Company Building andEpworth Methodist Episcopal Church . There are numerous early skyscraper buildings designed byLouis Sullivan , and at least three sites relate to the city's role in nation-wide retailing. [Three retailing sites are:Montgomery Ward Company Complex ,Sears, Roebuck and Company Complex , Marshall Field Company Store] Included also are numerous religious buildings, 13 hotels, [Hotels: 13 sites have "hotel" in their name.] and six theaters. [Six NRHPs that are theaters are: Orchestra Hall,Biograph Theater Building , [Balaban and Katz Chicago Theatre, Balaban and Katz Uptown Theatre,New Masonic Building and Oriental Theater , and Central Park Theater] Fully 55 are located in the downtown Loop area, including theLoop Retail Historic District itself.Despite Chicago's historic and continuing role as a major port city, only two RHPs are ships: the German U-boat
