Bruce Byfield

Bruce Byfield (born May 13, 1958) is a contributing editor for the SourceForgesites [http://www.linux.com Linux.com] , and the [http://www.itmanagersjournal.com/ IT Managers Journal] . Among othertopics, he reports on the Debian Project, the Free Software Foundation,licensing issues, and office applications. He also writes amonthly blog for the Linux Journal website, which tends to center on varying aspects of OpenOffice.org, the free software office suite. In addition to hisonline publications, he has published in such magazines as Linux Journal, Maximum Linux, and The New Internationalist. His blog, [http://brucebyfield.wordpress.com Off the Wall] , is a collection of short personal essays.

Before becoming a journalist, Byfield was marketing and communicationsdirector at Progeny Linux Systems, and product manager at StormixTechnologies. His book Witches of the Mind is considered the definitivework on the American fantasist Fritz Leiber. He also designs elearningcourses and is a marketing and communications consultant.

Byfield lives in Burnaby, Canada. In addition to free and open sourcesoftware, his interests include parrots, running, science fiction, andlistening to punk-folk music.
