Ocean Park, Puerto Rico

Ocean Park is an upscale beachfront community of San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is one 40 “sub-barrios” of Santurce. The land area measures 0.52 km² (520,891 m²), with a resident population of 1,976 as of U.S. Census of 2000. It is bound on the east by “Calle Guerrero Noble” and its straight extension to the beach, a short piece of “Calle Cacique” running east to connect to “Calle Teniente Rivera”, and the connecting piece of “Calle Soldado Cruz” to “Calle Loíza”. The southern border is up to “Calle Loíza”, but excluding same. In the west, it is “Calle María Mozco” (northern part) and “Calle Santa Ana” and in the north is bordered by the beach and the Atlantic Ocean. About one kilometer off the beach is the small rocky island Isla Piedra, which is also part of the district and which measures about 100 by 50 meters (4259 m² [http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet/DTTable?_bm=y&-context=dt&-ds_name=DEC_2000_SF1_U&-CONTEXT=dt&-mt_name=DEC_2000_SF1_U_P001&-tree_id=4001&-transpose=N&-redoLog=true&-all_geo_types=N&-currentselections=DEC_2000_SF1_U_P001&-geo_id=100$10000US721270012002000&-search_results=14000US72127001200&-format=&-_lang=en&-show_geoid=Y] ).

In the center of the district is the park “Parque Barbosa” and the residential area of “Santa Teresita” forms the eastern part of the district.

Ocean Park has a wide ocean front [Christopher Hall, [http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2001/03/11/CM219320.DTL Puerto Rico's San Juan is a charming combination of busy street life and blissful beaches] , SFGate, March 11, 2001] and its offshore reefs prevent large waves reaching the beach, which is popular with trendy beachgoers. Small Bed & Breakfast Inns which blend in with the residential community also dot the area. Trivia

Parque Barbosa is also known as the “último trolley” (last tram) which was the last “electric streetcar” that crossed the streets of San Juan from 1901 to 1946 and was placed in the park and operated as a restaurant, hence the name, “último trolley”.
