24 May 1939 from theRoyal Navy Observer School . It initially took charge ofBlackburn Shark andHawker Osprey aircraft. It later made use ofFairey Albacore s andFairey Barracuda s. During1940 its location was transposed toRNAS Yeovilton inSomerset . Operational duties took it toTrinidad in the West Indies where it stayed for the remainder of the War, until its disbandment in October1945 . Upon reforming in April1952 , it was located at several different bases around the globe being equipped withHunting Percival Sea Prince T1 Aircraft. Its current base isRNAS Culdrose from which it operates the BAe Jetstream T mark 2.750 NAS is tasked with training the
Fleet Air Arm 's Observers. After undergoing initial training atBRNC , 750 NAS trains officers over a seven month period in all aspects of airborne navigation, airmanship and other tactical skills. This is conducted in classrooms as well as in the air and in a computer-controlled simulator. Upon completion of this course they will be ready for Advanced Flying Training and will be streamed for their eventual specialisation.On completion of the training observers choose or are selected to serve inWestland Sea King ,Westland Lynx or AugustaWestland Merlin helicopters. These then help extend the eyes and ears of the fleet at sea.In 2010,the Jetstreams are set to be replaced by
FR Aviation Raytheon Super King Air aircraft.
