Rick Apodaca debuted in the
National Collegiate Athletic Association as a member of Hofstra's basketball team in 1999, and was an All-America East Rookie selection. He led the team in scoring during his junior year with an average of 17.7 points per game, and was an AllColonial Athletic Association second team selection. During his senior saeson Apodaca was selected to the All Colonial Athletic Association first team during the tournament's preseason, but was unable to play during the first fourteen games of the season after being suspended when he failed a drug test. Rick played his first two seasons for the team before being traded to theArecibo Captains in 2002. He was a member of the Captains during the next three years, and was selected to play in the league's All Star Game for the first time in 2002, he was also selected during the following two years. During 2003 Apodaca played for the Westchester Wilfire in theUnited States Basketball League and theOrlando Magic in the Nationa Basketball Association's Summer League. Apodaca played with theHuntsville Flight of theNational Basketball Development League during the 2004-2005 season. In the 2005 offseason the Arecibo Captains traded him to theSan Germán Athletics forLarry Ayuso , following his participation with Huntsville in the NBDL he joined the team and was selected to the All Star Game for a fifth time. Apodaca has been a member of thePuerto Rican National Basketball Team since 2002. Apodaca has participated in theWorld Championships in Indianapolis in 2002 and the 2003Pan American Games where Puerto Rico won the bronze medal.Apodaca played in the2004 Summer Olympics in a game where Puerto Rico defeated the United States, during the game Apodaca suffered an injury that left him unable to compete for the rest of the tournament. Apodaca competed with Puerto Rico in the 2006World Championships in Japan.Apodaca was part of

During the 2006-2007, Apodaca participated with theScafati Basket in the Serie A division inItaly . Beşiktaş Cola Turka in that coutry's national championship and theULEB Cup . Apodaca participated with the Santurce Crabbers in the semifinals of the 2008 National Superior Basketball season. In June 2008 the national team's gerency announnced that Apodaca didn't have a guaranteed sopt in the roster. Following this Apodaca notified to them onJune 15 ,2008 , that he would need time to attend some personal issues and take time off to ponder about his international future.
