History and description
Triangle Town Center opened in August 2002 with anchors Hudson Belk, Sears, Dillard's, and Macy's (previously Hecht's). Saks Fifth Avenue, the state's first, opened later in 2004. The mall also features a two-level Barnes and Noble, which serves as a semi-anchor. The mall has an outdoor, open air portion, which includes smaller stores.
In addition to the mall, there is also a shopping center, with Bed Bath & Beyond, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Party City. There are also some restaurants as well, such as Chili's.
In June 2011, the mall was host to the British Obstetrics Society's exhibit on antique gynecological implements. The exhibit features a wide array of speculums, some of which were used in Ancient Rome.
Incidents
On July 26, 2008, at approximately 8 pm, a fight broke out on the mall's upper level. The fight involved approximately a dozen teenagers and incited upwards of 150 other teens to act out. The mall was evacuated. The fight lasted about 20 minutes before Raleigh Police and Wake County sheriff's deputies restored order. Raleigh Police say that the incident was gang-related. [3] The mall has since instituted a youth escort policy, stating that under-18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on Friday and Saturday evenings.
