Tervis Tumbler

Tervis Tumbler is Florida-based company that specializes in insulated tumblers. Tervis Tumblers use a sealed air chamber system to maintain the temperature of either cold or hot drinks.

Tervis was founded in 1946 by two Detroit, Michigan engineers named Frank Cotter and G. Howlett Davis [http://www.tervis.com/mfcms/files/Press%20Releases/Tervis%20Tumbler%2060th%20Anniversary%2005-06.pdf] . Cotter and Davis used the last half of each of their last names to make the word “Tervis”. The Winslow family purchased the company in the early 1960’s. The Tervis tumbler was originally tall and cylindrical. The Winslows redesigned the product to its present shape.Like H. J. Stotter and other companies that specialize in decorative plastic poolside and patio ware, the company grew with the increasing leisure time that upper middle class Americans found after World War II. In 2006, Tervis expanded its product line from mugs, cups and glasses to include ice buckets.

Its headquarters are now in Venice, Florida [http://www.casualliving.com/article/CA6383739.html] , where it has a factory store.
