Bhandavapur

"Bhandavapur" jain tirth is situated in the dense forest of Bhandavpur village, near Bhinmal (भीनमाल) jain tirth of the Jalore district of Rajasthan.This jain tirth contains the attractive and said to be magical idol of the 24th Jain Tirthankara lord Mahavira. In the compound one another temple of Shri Acharya Rajendrasurishwarji made on a Lotus flower is very attractive too; teachings and life of Acharya Rajendrasuri are carved on the inner wall of this temple. Acharya Jayantsain Suri was ordained into Acharya of Tristutik Gachcha, a sub sect of the Shvetambara sect of Jainism, and was given the name Acharya Vijay Jayantsain Suri In 1983, at Bhandavapur Jain Tirth.

History

Bhandavapur Jain Tirth Being an ancient one, this tirth place is also very magical. The Molnayak(main) idol of lord Mahavira is full of magical powers. It is said that the temple present at Veshala city in the older days was heavily damaged following the attacks of extremists. In order to ensure the idol would remain in his village, Sanghavi Palji of the village of Komata ran away and his cart along with the Moolnayak idol. But the cart automatically stopped at Bhandvapur. Sanghvi palji got the indication of its established himself in Bhandvapur, and along with his family members built a temple and installed the Moolnayak idol in it on Magh Shukla 5 of Vikrama Samvat 1233 (1176 A.D.). The heirs of Sanghvi Palji still offer Dhwaja on the temple every year. Still famous as a magical place, many Jains and non-Jainese visits this tirth place. Mela (Huge gatherings) are organised during Chaitra Shukla 13 & Poornima and on Kartik Poornima according the Hindu calendar.

Inscriptions

It seems to be an ancient tirth place as per inscription. The idol established on Margshirsh Shukla Saptami of Vikrama Samvat 813 (756 A.D.) was re-established in the temple on Marrgshirsh Shukla 5 of Vikrama Samvat 1233 (1176 A.D.). A description of its establishment on Poush Shukla 9 of Vikarama Samvata 1340 (1283 A.D.) is also found.

Facilities

Huge "Dharamshala"( Jian Pilgrims Rest House) with modern facilities on the temple campus having 25 twin rooms & 100 single rooms. Bhojanshala (eating place for Pilgrims) is available from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm and 5.00 pm to 6.30 pm.

Distance and How to Reach

Bhandavapur is 56 km far from Jalor Railway station & 50 km from Bhinmal Jain tirth, this holy place is situated on Sayla-Menglava road. Pantheri is 25 km down the main road from Bhinmal and the tirth place is at another 25 km from there. Pilgrims could travel to Bhandvapur tirth via Posana, just 14 km from Pantheri. Nakoda Jain tirth is at 100 km and Jahaj Mandir, Mandvla is 45 km from this holy place. Modara station is 35 km from here. State Public Transport Buses leave at 8.00. 10.30, 12.00 am & 2.00, 4.00 & 5.00 pm from Jalor; 8.00 am & 4.00 pm from Bhinmal while from Modara they starts at 9.00 am, 12.00 noon & 4.00 pm.
