Purdue
1992–1994
Robinson led Gary Roosevelt High School to an
Indiana state basketball championship and was aMcDonald's All-American . He playedcollege basketball at Purdue University for two seasons after struggling with NCAA eligibility courtesy of Proposition 48 which requires minimum academic standards. In1994 , he received the Wooden and Naismith Awards and led his team to anElite Eight appearance. Robinson was also unanimously selected as theBig Ten Conference Player of the Year following his junior campaign. On the season, he averaged 30.3 points and more than 10 rebounds per game, leading the Big Ten in both categories. Robinson's coach,Gene Keady , commented that Robinson was "an absolute warrior on the court, especially the practice court. If all my players practiced with the same intensity and listened to his coaches as he does, my job would be much easier." At the time, Robinson was one of the best all around college players of all time.Professional career
Milwaukee Bucks
1994–2002
Robinson was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks with the first overall pick in the
1994 NBA draft . Unfortunately, before Glenn Robinson could take the court, he and the Bucks became involved in a contract holdout that lasted until the beginning of training camp after it was rumored that he desired a then-unprecedented 13 year $100 million contract [ [http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1208/is_n20_v218/ai_15924175 Article from findarticles.com - dated Nov 14, 1994] ] . Robinson eventually signed an nearly equally unprecedented 10-year, $68 million deal that still stands as the richest NBA contract to a rookie due to the "rookie cap" that was installed the following season. During his first pro year, Robinson was twice named the Schick NBA Rookie of the Month and was named to the NBA All-Rookie Team after a leading all rookies with an average of 21.9 points per game. Throughout the season, Robinson and fellow rookieGrant Hill fought neck and neck for the Rookie of the Year award. Despite playing the same position, Hill was seen as a more clean cut player and was voted to the All Star team while Robinson was seen as more of an outsider, and at season's end Robinson finished third in Rookie of the Year voting behind the aforementioned Grant Hill andJason Kidd who tied for the award. While playing for theMilwaukee Bucks , Robinson racked up some of the best personal stats in franchise history. Early in his career, Robinson shared the front court with teammate and All StarVin Baker . After Baker departed, he teamed withRay Allen andSam Cassell , and helped lead the Bucks to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2001. Robinson is the second place all-time leading scorer inMilwaukee Bucks history, averaging at least 20 points per game in seven of his eight seasons in Milwaukee. He also made 2 All-Star Teams in 2000 and 2001.Atlanta Hawks, Philadelphia 76ers, San Antonio Spurs
2002–2005
Robinson was traded by Milwaukee to the
Atlanta Hawks forToni Kukoč ,Leon Smith and a 2003 first-round pick onAugust 2 2002 . After a year in Atlanta he was traded onJuly 23 2003 with a 2006 second-round pick to thePhiladelphia 76ers in a four-team deal in which the Hawks acquiredRandy Holcomb , a first-round draft pick and cash considerations from Philadelphia, along withTerrell Brandon from theMinnesota Timberwolves . As part of the deal Philadelphia sentKeith Van Horn to theNew York Knicks and acquiredMarc Jackson from the Timberwolves. The Timberwolves acquiredLatrell Sprewell from Knicks. After a year in Philadelphia during the 2003-04 season, Robinson did not play a game for the 76ers in the 2004-05 season largely due to an injury. OnFebruary 24 2005 he was traded to theNew Orleans Hornets . In exchange the 76ers acquired forwardsRodney Rogers andJamal Mashburn . Robinson was waived by the team almost immediately and never suited up for them. Robinson was signed by theSan Antonio Spurs on April 5, 2005 to establish an additional veteran shooting presence as the team prepared for the playoffs. With the Spurs, Robinson finally won an NBA championship in 2005, playing about 8 minutes per game in the postseason.Robinson has not played professional basketball since the 2004-05 season. At present, he has scored 14,234 career points (a career scoring average of 20.7 PPG). Robinson also averaged 6.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.2 steals per game throughout his NBA career.
