Utah Jazz programming

KFNZ is the flagship station for the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association and its famous play-by-play announcer, "Hot Rod" Hundley. Most of its talk programming comes from ESPN Radio, with one notable exception: during the NBA season, "1320 KFAN" has a dedicated talk show about the Jazz from 4 p.m. to either 7 p.m. or the start of the pregame show for the Jazz games, whichever is applicable.

History

KFNZ initially began as KCPX, carrying a contemporary hits format that was popular in the valley during the 1970s. With the arrival of FM, the station's ratings fell. In the 1980s, the station changed its call sign to KBUG, to KUTR, and then back to KCPX on 1992-02-18 switching formats to oldies. On 1992-08-11 the stations calls switched to KCNR, and the station began airing news and talk. On 1996-08-30, Citadel communications acquired the station and changed the calls to the current KFNZ and it began airing its current sports format.
