input = Keyboard & mouse,RailDriver Trainz Railroad Simulator 2006, more commonly known as "TRS2006", is a
Microsoft Windows train simulation game developed byAuran . It is the 4th game in the series, succeeding Trainz Railroad Simulator 2004. The main modules are Surveyor, the route editor (and route creator), Driver, where the user can drive a train, play sessions, and play scenarios, Railyard, where the user can view locomotives, sound the horn or whistle, lights if the loco has any, and toggle the pantographs or any other animation made by the pantograph buttons if the loco has any, and view rolling stock, Trainz Exchange, where the user can see the most recent news, download content, and more. Trainz Exchange will be removed from future versions of the game.Gameplay
TRS2006 can be played through either the DCC control type (simple) or Cab Mode (advanced). DCC control uses a model railway display for train driving, designed for beginners or when you are running many trains at once. Cab mode uses a realistic driver control, players can either use keyboard commands to move and stop the train or go inside the train and drive it first person, once they learn the controls. On the Trainz DownLoad Station (DLS) website are thousands of add-ons for the game; buildings, rolling stock, locomotives and maps (layouts/routes).Thanks to the support of all the 3rd party creators in TRS2006 you can drive almost every train, from the first steam train, the Rocket, to the experimental S1, a massive 6-4-4-6 steam engine, to the futuristic diesel designs of turbo trains and the MagLev.
Railyard
Railyard is where the user can look at locomotives and rolling stock. They can hear the locomotive's horn/whistle, raise/lower the pantograph(s) if the locomotive has one,(or operate other animations triggered by the pantograph button), and turn on/off the lights if there are any.
Surveyor
Surveyor is the route editor where the user can create and edit a route/layout/map. There are 7 tabs activated either by the Function keys or by clicking them. The top one is the "Topology" tab, where one creates the landscape (raising/lowering the terrain), create/raise/lower/delete water, make new baseboards (grids), and use displacement maps which allow easier creation of the landscape.
Creating your own Assets
Additionally, users can create their own content and install it into the game for their own use. The Download station that is at auran.com contains thousands and thousands of content that are made by trainz railway simulator users and players. The content can be downloaded by any player that has a legally registered serial cd key upon purchase and be installed into the game for use.
A vital tool of creating your own assets is 'Trainz Asset Creation Studio' this is the modelling platform where new assets/items are modelled along with setting up a 'config.txt' file to program the behaviours of the model for the game. The asset creation studio can be downloaded at the auran.com site
