His Braga career was a steady one, as he was always counted on by several team coaches; he was influential when Hungarian internationalMiklos Feher joined the club in 2000-01, providing 10 assists as Feher netted 14 goals in 26 appearances. Castanheira also served as club co-captain during his stay.Castanheira was an important part of the squad that finished in fourth place in the 2005-06 league, nearly missing out in the
UEFA Champions League , and progressed through to the last 16-round in the following season's UEFA Cup.In January 2008, however, he was loaned to first division promotees
