BC Children's Hospital is a medical facility located in Vancouver, British Columbia. and is an agency of the Provincial Health Services Authority.

BC Children's specializes in health care for patients from birth and infancy up to age 16. It is also a teaching and research facility for children's medicine.

BC Children's is adjacent to the BC Women's Hospital & Health Centre. The two were officially a single organization and were known as the Children's & Women's Health Centre.

BC Children's also operates the Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children, which provides specialized services to children and youth with developmental disabilities aged birth to 19.

Working with the Hospital and the community, BC Children’s Hospital Foundation raises funds to support and enhance the delivery of pediatric care in BC. The Foundation provides funding to BC Children’s Hospital, as well as its sister facilities, the Child & Family Research Institute and Sunny Hill Health Centre, to support research into childhood diseases, the purchase of medical equipment, and a range of child health education and training programs.

History

BC Children’s roots go back to the establishment of a fund for crippled children by the BC Women’s Institute in 1923.cite web|url=http://www.bcchildrens.ca/AboutUs/BCCH/History.htm|title=BC Children's Hospital History page|accessdate=2007-11-04] In 1928, the Vancouver’s Crippled Children’s Hospital was established. This was followed by the opening of the Crippled Children’s Hospital in 1933, which was renamed as the Children’s Hospital in 1947.

In 1964, the Children’s Hospital and the Health Centre for Children agreed to the construction of a joint facility, which began construction in 1977. Construction of BC Children’s at its current location was completed in 1982.

Facilities and amenities

BC Children’s offers a broad range of inpatient, outpatient and tertiary care for children from birth to adolescence. This includes clinics, emergency services, pediatric health care, surgery, intensive care, transplants, genetics, and an HIV centre.
