manageryears = 2006-2007
managerclubs = DumbartonGerry McCabe (born
September 26 ,1956 in Hamilton) is a Scottish former football player and manager, and is currently the assistant manager of Dunfermline Athletic.Management
McCabe became his own man as boss of Dumbarton when he replaced the sacked Paul Martin after relegation from the Scottish Second Division in May 2006. The new manager promised a more attacking approach, differing from the defensive style that his predecessor employed. He also had the difficult but widely expected task of gaining promotion after only season in the
Scottish Third Division .Things looked promising for McCabewith his first season with shrewd signings of former Kilmarnock Scottish Cup winner
David Bagan , and the successful loan spell ofStephen Dobbie . The team appeared to gel after a slow start and Dobbie scored 10 goals in 17 league games which got the Sons into a promising position. However Dobbie's loan spell ended in December 2006 and any chances of a loan extension were dashed when he signed permanently for Scottish First Division side Queen of the South. After Dobbie's departure the goals dried up and Dumbarton just fell short of a promotion play-off place, finishing 5th.McCabe also succeeded in leading the side to a
Scottish Cup 3rd round tie to SPL champions Celtic atCeltic Park . Dumbarton eventually lost 4-0. However after a succession of players left the club including popular goalkeeper
Stephen Grindlay , defenderChris Boyle and wingerRyan Borris , McCabe found it hard to replace them. Lack of goals was evident in the league when new signingsBrian McPhee andDavid McFarlane failed to hit the net on a regular basis. This lead to Dumbarton sitting 3rd bottom of the league. With only 3 wins out of 11 league games, McCabe was dismissed on November 2007 after only 18 months atStrathclyde Homes Stadium . Gerry McCabe worked as assistant to
Bobby Williamson at most of the clubs Williamson managed. When he was first appointed manager of Kilmarnock, McCabe joined as his number two. He then went on to assist Williamson at his next two managerial positions, Hibernian and Plymouth Argyle.In January 2008, McCabe was appointed assistant to player-manager Jim McIntyre at Dunfermline Athletic.
