The Select Stakes is a Group 3 flat horse race in the
United Kingdom open tothoroughbred s which are three-years-old or above. It is run over a distance of 1 mile 1 furlong and 192 yards (1,986 metres) atGoodwood Racecourse , and it takes place annually in September.First run in 1965, the race was originally titled the Valdoe Stakes. This was changed to the present name in 1986. Initially the event excluded three-year-olds, and from 1973 to 1975 it was for three and four-year-olds only. In 1966 it was run as a
handicap race .Notable winners include
Dancing Brave , who won the race en route to victory in thePrix de l'Arc de Triomphe , andAlderbrook , who later won theChampion Hurdle . Both Singspiel andMoon Ballad subsequently won theDubai World Cup .Winners since 1986
