- Yoxford
Yoxford is a village in the east of
Suffolk ,England close to the Heritage Coast, Minsmere Reserve (RSPB),Aldeburgh andSouthwold . Some 94 miles from London and 25 miles north of Ipswich, Yoxford is surrounded by the parkland of three country houses in an area known as the “Garden of Suffolk”. The village derives its name from a ford of theRiver Yox whereoxen could pass. It runs near the village. The junction of the A12 trunk road and the A1120 is in the village.The "Griffin Inn", a medieval Suffolk inn is located here. The Satis House Hotel, an 18th century house, was referred to by
Charles Dickens inGreat Expectations . According to Pip, Satis means "whoever lives here could wish for nothing more". The Church of St Peter is situated here. On the edge of the village isCockfield Hall the old home of theBlois family .The village is known for its antique shops and also has three pubs (The Griffin, The Blois Arms & The King's Head), a Post Office, a general store and other shops.
