In Serbian, the village is known as "Hrtkovci" (Хртковци), in Croatian as "Hrtkovci", and in Hungarian as "Herkóca".
Vojislav Šešelj tried to rename the village to "Srbislavci" (Србиславци) but failed.History

Croatian War of Independence , the largest ethnic group in Hrtkovci wereCroats , while the rest of population wereSerbs ,Hungarians andSlovaks . During the war,Serbian Radical Party leaderVojislav Šešelj came to the town and delivered a speech in which he said that there was no place for Croats there.
