Press 53

Press 53 is an independent regional publisher of literary fiction, poetry, and nonfiction. The press was founded October 1, 2005 by Kevin Watson of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In November 2005, Watson partnered with Sheryl Monks of Hamptonville, North Carolina, and their partnership became official January 1, 2006. Press 53 publishes 6-10 books per year, including the anthology series, "Surreal South", and sponsors The Press 53 Open Awards writing contest. Authors and poets published with Press 53 include John Ehle, Quinn Dalton, Amy Knox Brown, Marjorie Hudson, Joseph Mills, Valerie Nieman, Doug Frelke, Tom Sheehan, Al Sim, Beebe Barksdale-Bruner, E.A. Bagby, and Joseph L. Anderson.
