David Nosworthy is one of the worlds' respected first-class cricket coaches. His portfolio of first-class coaching roles include the South African
Highveld Lions , the New ZealandCanterbury Wizards and the South AfricanNashua Titans .Nosworthy was born in
Johannesburg ,South Africa on Christmas Day, 1967 and took upcricket at a young age whilst living inPort Elizabeth . He played cricket forGrey High School in Port Elizabeth where he broke the great batsman, Graeme Pollocks' record for the most runs in a season whilst at school.As a young player he played in Yorkshire and Huddersfield in England for a Marsden CC.
He first made his name playing for the South African Border cricket team as a batsman, based in the town of East London and although he never made the step up to international cricket, he was a well respected player at the time.
Following his retirement from playing, he took up a coaching role with the
Pretoria based franchise, theNashua Titans where he led them to numerous trophies. TheEasterns cricket team was merged into the Nashua Titans and Nosworthy was selected over ex-SA wicket keeperRay Jennings for the caoching position, a decision rumoured to be driven by the alleged clash of personalities between Jennings and SA captainGraeme Smith .Nosworthy was also the head coach of the United Cricket Board (now
Cricket South Africa as coach of the National Academy in 2005 before leaving SA for the shores ofNew Zealand . Here Nosworthy coached the first-classCanterbury Wizards , where he took the team to a State Championship title in 2007-08 and victories in the State Shield and the Twenty20 competition in 2005-06. In early 2007, Nosworthy was announced as the coach for the New Zealand A Team tour toAustralia , scheduled for July 2007.In September 2008 David Nosworthy took up a position as head coach for the South African first-class cricket team, the Lions based at the
Wanderers Stadium inJohannesburg .References
