Most of the distance that U.S. Highway 411 travels is rural countryside, with no major metropolitan areas along its route, although it passes near the cities of
Birmingham, Alabama ,Atlanta, Georgia andKnoxville, Tennessee . InSevier County, Tennessee , the highway is used by many tourists as a gateway to theGreat Smoky Mountains National Park , of which the highway passes about 20 miles north.Though generally a two lane route, the Tennessee Department of Transportation is in the processing of completing its widening of the highway betweenMaryville, Tennessee &Benton, Tennessee , with portions fromMaryville, Tennessee toMadisonville, Tennessee andEnglewood, Tennessee to Delano, Tennessee (Polk County) completed.
Although it carries a north-south designation, the lengthy section betweenCartersville, Georgia , andGadsden, Alabama , is east-west.References
