Jaenelle Angelline

Jaenelle Angelline is a fictional character in author Anne Bishop's the Black Jewels Trilogy, as well as several of her other Realms of the Blood works. Jaenelle is the long awaited Dark Queen. She is Witch and the result of the dreams of all the untainted Blood, both human and kindred, made flesh, hence the reason she is often referred to as "Dreams Made Flesh". She is the strongest witch in all the history of the Blood and is one of only a few witches to have the triple gift of being a natural Queen, Healer and Black Widow.

Childhood

Jaenelle grew up in the capital city of Chaillot, Beldon Mor, as the granddaughter of the Territory's Queen, Alexandra Angelline. Her mother was Alexandra's daughter, Leland Benedict and for the first part of her life she believed her father to be Robert Benedict. Through Robert, Jaenelle had a half-sister, Wilhelmina Benedict.

Jaenelle was a very strong and extraordinary girl and in being so strong her family did not believe she wore any jewels at all. Her power was so great that no one in her family could descend far enough into the abyss (the place where the power of the jewels takes form. It is represented by webs of power that start at the white and descend to the black.) to sense her power. But in fact her birthright jewels were 12 "lighter" jewels (white, yellow, tiger eye, rose, summer-sky, purple dusk, opal, green, sapphire, red, gray, and ebon gray.), and 13 un-cut black jewels. Most blood are born with only one jewel of a various strength and color, but Jaenelle was given 25 jewels by Lorn, a Dragon and consort to the Queen who started the Blood.

Jaenelle was seen as emotionally unstable by her family and often placed in the facility known as Briarwood, which hid a dark secret. Jaenelle would often tell stories of centaurs, unicorns and places she had been, that her family "knew did not exist". Only Wilhelmina believed Jaenelle, realising that her sister was somehow special.

In reality, Jaenelle was actually using the, already extraordinary, power she possessed to jump between the Realms of Terreille, Kaeleer and Hell. In Kaeleer, she stumbled into Territories that had been closed to outsiders, by the Blood-kindred who habitated them, for centuries. In Hell, she met Wilhelmina's demon-dead bioligical mother, Adria, who told her of how Robert's brother, Phillip Alexander, was both hers and Wilhelmina's father, not Robert. By the age of eight, she had also befriended the "cildru dyathe", the demon-dead children of Hell, which soon brought her to the attention of the High Lord of Hell himself, Saetan SaDiablo.

Court

Jaenelle Angelline, as Witch and a Queen, makes a court, later referred to as the Dark Court. The First Circle of this court is comprised of her numerous childhood friends including: Daemon Sadi (as Consort), Saetan Daemon SaDiablo (Steward), Mephis SaDiablo, Andulvar (Master of the Guard), Karla and Morton of Glacia, Gabrielle and Chaosti of the Dea al Mon, Aaron and Sabrina of Dharo, Kalush of Narkhava, Khardeen and Morghann of Scelt, and Lucivar Yaslana (referred to as Yasi by the Queen of Pruul, serving as her First Escort).

The Second Circle is known to contain Rainier, who was Dance Master to the coven.

The Eighth Circle is known to contain Marian, Lucivar's previous housekeeper and current wife.

Jaenelle had never wanted to start a court, but certain circumstances made starting a court her only option. When she makes her offering to the darkness ( the decent to her full power) she walks away wearing Ebony jewels. The ebony is darker and more powerful than the black, but is sometimes mistaken as the black until closer inspection. This makes her the most powerful being in all the realms and in the history of the Blood. The Dark court consists of almost all of Kaeler and Hell.
