Saetan Daemon SaDiablo

Saetan Daemon SaDiablo is a fictional character in Anne Bishop's the Black Jewels Trilogy. He is the High Lord of Hell, as well as a Guardian, one of the living-dead, who has lived for over 50,000 years. He was the first and only male to ever wear the Black Jewels or to be a Black Widow, until his son Daemon. He is Jaenelle Angelline's adopted father and is also the biological father of Mephis SaDiablo, Peyton SaDiablo, Lucivar Yaslana, as well as Daemon Sadi. He is the Warlord Prince of Dhemlan and becomes the Steward of the Dark Court of Ebon Askavi, when Jaenelle becomes Queen.

Attributes

Saetan is originally from the Terreillean Territory of Hayll. As such, he has the common dark skin, gold eyes and black hair, though his is silvering at the temples, of the Hayllian people. Saetan appears to be a man at the end of, or just past, his prime, despite his very advanced age. At times, he has been known to walk with a silver cane, though after regularly receiving the fresh blood that sustains a Guardian, from Jaenelle, he is able to walk unhindered once more. He is usually dressed in black pants, a black tunic and a black cloak, lined with red, that is knee-length. He wears his fingernails long and tinted black.

A man who believes deeply in the Blood's Protocol and honour codes, Saetan has often sacrificed much for his beliefs, including the paternity his two youngest sons, Daemon and Lucivar, though he later acknowledges them in the official records held in the Keep. He believes that a Blood male's position is one of protection, rather than one of ruling. Saetan made the choice to become a Guardian, to await the next Witch, who had been prophesied as the daughter of his soul, something that greatly appealed to him, due to his belief in the Blood's customs, such as Winsol, a night that celebrates Witch.

Powers, Abilities and the Jewels

Saetan came out of the Birthright Ceremony wearing the Red, as his Birthright Jewel; after he made the Offering to the Darkness, he became the first male ever to wear the Black. He also learned from Cassandra, the then-Queen of Ebon Askavi, to whom he was Consort, how to become a Black Widow--again the first male to do so. His body is not capable of producing its own venom, therefore he must brew it from a different blend of poisons before consuming it.

Wearing the Black Jewel gives Saetan a massive reservoir of power, and abilities far outside the limits of any but the most gifted of the Blood. He is generally held as the most powerful Warlord Prince in the history of the Blood, though his son Daemon may have more recently stolen that title.
