[Sarles, Jane. "Journeys Through Clarksville's Past". (2006) p.52]History
Built in 1968 along what was then McCulloch Pike, on ground that had for years been a cornfield, it became the catalyst for Clarksville's northern growth, as developers saw building at Green Tree and the surrounding area preferable than building two different stores in New Albany and Jeffersonville.
JCPenney and Sears were the initial anchor stores, with the mall laying entirely between the two stores. A 5 & 10, Danners, was also a prominent initial draw. JCPenney and Sears are still at their original locations, andDillard's anchors the back annex. This Dillard's was originallyBen Snyder's and laterHess's . The main entrance was built in 1980 during a convert|22000|sqft|m2|-2|abbr=on. expansion on the mall. The firstTexas Roadhouse opened in 1993 at the mall and is still located at the mall. Green Tree Mall plays host to Club Mom, a children's entertainment event, on the first Tuesday of every month. In addition to its club event, the mall has Kids Day, which is similar to a large Club Mom.
In 2007, the mall was set to host the first
Kentucky Derby Festival event in Indiana with the U.S. Bank Derby Festival Great Balloonfest, but it was canceled due to poor weather. Bob Hedge Park inJeffersonville, Indiana . The park is specially designed for children that are handicapped. [Sign located at Bob Hedge Park] Staff also participate in cooking at theRonald McDonald House in Louisville as well as working with other organizations such as theSalvation Army andGoodwill Industries .Dillard's expansion
River Falls Mall , another shopping center, opened across the street in 1990. WhenBacon's , one of River Falls' original anchors, was acquired by Dillard's, Dillard's moved its men's department to the former Bacon's, while keeping the women's department at Green Tree Mall. In 2004, Dillard's closed the men's store at River Falls Mall as that mall declined, and returned the men's department to the Green Tree store, making that store a full-line Dillard's once more. Dillard's expanded its location to become the largest single floor Dillard's store and they completed their expansion of convert|60000|sqft|m2|-3|abbr=on in March 2005.Anchors and major attractions
