- East London Chorus
The East London Chorus is based at the
University of East London , Docklands campus. Membership is drawn from the University and the wider community in Docklands and East London. The Chorus has a varied classical repertoire, performing five concerts a year. It was founded in 1972 at the North East London Polytechnic underMichael Kibblewhite as NELP Chorus, and has been performing at central London and east London venues ever since. Several recordings have been made by East London Chorus: "Essentially English", "Essentially Christmas", Bliss "Morning Heroes" and "Psaumes Solennels" byJean Langlais . A recording of Saint-Saëns "Requiem" is to be released in early 2007.Currently, East London Chorus is a choir of about 40 amateur singers, directed by [http://www.londonproarte.co.uk/murray.htm Murray Stewart] , rehearsing weekly to perform concerts to a high standard. A wide range of classical composers’ works are performed: Monteverdi, Purcell, Vivaldi, Bach, Haydn, Handel, Mozart, Bruckner, Elgar, Fauré, Bernstein, Britten and others, through to living composers such as
