- Gene D. Block
Gene D. Block (born 1948) is currently serving as the ninth
chancellor of theUniversity of California, Los Angeles . His selection was announced onDecember 21 ,2006 , and he took office onAugust 1 ,2007 , succeeding acting chancellorNorman Abrams .Prior to accepting the chancellorship at UCLA, Dr. Block was provost and Professor of Biology at the
University of Virginia . He was succeeded by Dr.Arthur Garson, Jr. , MD, MPH.Block, 58, is an accomplished biologist whose research is involved in the cellular basis of
circadian rhythm s. He received the A.B. fromStanford University in 1970, followed by the M.S. and Ph.D. in 1972 and 1975, respectively, from theUniversity of Oregon ; all of these degrees were inpsychology . He returned to Stanford for postdoctoral work in 1975 until 1978 when he began his professorial career at the University of Virginia.External links
