Franchione is the son of college football coach
Dennis Franchione and Linda Solomon. Franchione was born in Miller, Missouri, and was grew up near Pittsburg, KS.. He graduated from Pittsburg (Kansas) High School, and earned a bachelor's degree in physical education in 1996 from theUniversity of New Mexico . Two years later he received hisM.S. in education fromArkansas State University . Franchione began his coaching career while still in college. He was a student coach assisting the secondary at the University of New Mexico from 1992-1996, and served as a graduate assistant with the offense at Arkansas State from 1996-1998.Early career
After his graduation from Arkansas State, Franchione received his first official coaching job as an assistant at
Fort Scott Community College , working with quarterbacks and the punt team and serving as video coordinator. After a year there, Franchione move toEast Central University , where from 1999-2001 he was the defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator, as well as the academic and special teams coordinator. He helped lead their 2000 team to its first winning season in 17 years.In 2001-2002, Franchione was an assistant coach at the
University of West Alabama , where he worked withlinebacker s and the punt and kickoff teams. He held the same position at theUniversity of Tennessee-Martin in 2002.The next season (2003-2004), Franchione was an associate head coach, defensive coordinator, and recruiting coordinator at
Bacone College . The team earned second place in theCentral States Intercollegiate Football Conference .In 2005, Franchione served as
defensive line coach atTexas A&M University-Commerce . In his single season there, he was also the academic, travel, and video coordinator for the team. He was responsible for recruiting atKansas junior colleges and in centralTexas , an area that included his next school, Blinn.Family
Franchione has a son, Wyatt (born 2004) and a daughter, Isabella (born 2006).
