National High School, Basavanagudi

National High School (NHS as it is adeptly and commonly called) is a government-aided high school in Bangalore. It is one the prime high schools and most sought after, in the southern part of Bangalore, in a location called Basavanagudi (known for its orthodox and culturally rich people). With grades/classes for 8th, 9th and 10th, this school caters to every meritorious student regardless of their religion or caste. The school is about 93 years old and has a great tradition. The Late Dr.H. Narasimhaiah, one of the few who strived to keep up the public school system up and running has contributed to this school immensely.

History of The School

The school opened in the year 1917 A.D. as a public school system, for enriching the lives of people in and around south bangalore with an education system considered prime for its age.

Admission

Admission is open to everyone without regard to religion, caste or creed. This is an equal opportunity school. There is a minimum requirement of an overall score of 85%–90% in the seventh standard exam a student has to obtain in order to seek admission in this school.

Panchayat Elections

There are 5 sections for each grade/class, A-E. For each section there are 5 leaders elected normally 3 boys and 2 girls. among all the 25 leaders, nominations are sought and three leaders are elected to represent the school. This election process happens every year.
