Austin St. John (born September 17 1975) is an American actor known for his role in the popular "Power Rangers" children's television series as Jason Lee Scott, the original Red Ranger.

Biography

Career

St. John's acting career began with his role as Jason in "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers", which began in 1993 and started the "Power Rangers" franchise. The show went through unexpected overnight success and catapulted into pop culture in months. Mid-way through the second season of "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers", St. John left the show along with fellow cast member Walter Jones (Zack Taylor) and Thuy Trang (Trini Kwan). This was reportedly due to a salary dispute with the producers because "Power Rangers" was then a non-union production and the cast members were underpaid. St. John was replaced on "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" by Steve Cardenas (Rocky DeSantos), who would also play the role of the Red Ranger in '. St. John later returned as Jason to play the second Gold Ranger in ', and also starred in ' (along with former Power Rangers cast member Amy Jo Johnson (Kimberly Hart)). St. John returned to the "Power Rangers" several years later in a 30 minute special "Power Rangers: The Lost Episode" in which he co-starred with Jones, and returned again as Jason in ' for the special episode "Forever Red," which celebrated the tenth anniversary of Power Rangers.

Personal life

St. John and his family have moved all over the United States with his father, who is a U.S. Marine. St. His hometown is in Roswell, New Mexico. He began studying martial arts with his father at the age of five. He has studied 14 different martial arts, including Taekwondo, Shenkito, Judo, Thai Kickboxing and Kenpo and trained in Thai Kickboxing at Lumpinee Stadium in Thailand.Fact|date=August 2008 A sports enthusiast, St. John enjoys outdoor sports, especially football, soccer, hiking and baseball. He and fellow cast member Walter Jones maintain a close friendship today. They both appeared at the Power Morphicon, the first "Power Rangers" convention, which took place in Los Angeles in June 2007.
